Defending “Jesus Only” Baptism | Victor Tey

What name should we glorify when we baptize a believer in water? Whilst Matthew 28:19 has often been used as a basis for the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost to be pronounced over the believer, this is not the example we see from the early church. Did they misunderstand the command, or were they simply disobeying the Lord’s great commission? Or perhaps today, we have misunderstood the Lord’s command and ought to follow the pattern of the early disciples, as we do with many other church practices.

Colossians 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Acts 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
